Biography

Noticed at a very young age by the graet violinist Joszef SZIGETI, she studies violin at the National Superior Conservatoire of Paris where she gets a first Prize at the age of 14.
The following year, she obtains the Carl- Flesch Prize at London and follows with a Paganini Prize at Genova in Italy. Then she perfects herself with Leonid KOGAN, Henryck SZERYNG and Dominique HOPPENOT and performs as soloist with the BBC LONDON, COLOGNE, OSR GENEVA, BUDAPEST, BUCHAREST, TOULOUSE and PARIS Orchestras.

She regulary plays and records for various European Radios her favorite repertoire, concertos for violin or viola of the post-romantic period: Sibelius, Szymanowski, Tchaikowski, Hartmann, Stravinski, Miklos Rosza, Chausson

Elizabeth BALMAS has created the concerto of Dirk BROSSE with the Suisse Romande Orchestra and for Radio-France a Sonate for viola and piano of Jacques BOISGALLAIS.

Her participation as Concertmaster allowed her to plays the large symphonic repertoire with such conductors as: S.CELIBIDACHE, D.BARENBOIM, M. JANOWSKI, G.SOLTI, M.W.CHUNG, P.JÄRVI and many other.
